Aerospace systems are connected with the operational environment and other in general. The focus aerospace product development is consequently shifting from a singular system perspective to System-of-Systems (SoS) perspective. This increasing complexity gives rise new levels of uncertainty that must be understood managed produce solutions for an ever-changing future. paper presents approach using architecture frameworks, ontologies description logic reasoning capabilities, break down SoS needs into required capabilities functions. intention this provide consistent way obtaining functions realized order meet overarching SoS. breakdown framework results initial design space representation performed. captured knowledge then represented ontology which provides more flexible expand process obtained framework. proposed ultimately tested search rescue case study, partly based on operations Swedish Maritime Administration. show it possible can used both reduce available representation.
